“Why isn’t my tweet getting any likes?” “Why is their tweet getting likes?”  “Why don’t my twitter analytics seem to match my feed?” “Twitter, why… just… WHY?!”

It can be super difficult to wrap your head around the Twitter algorithm and just when you think you’ve got it down, it changes. The Twitter algorithm is messy to say the least but just remember this acronym, MUTEPC, and maybe you’ll start to like Twitter again.

M: Media: Twitter will show you more of what you have previously favorited (aka, videos, GIFs, polls, etc).

U: User Interest: Twitter will favor posts that they think your audience prefers and highlights them on your users feed over other posts you tweet (that Twitter doesn’t think your audience will like).

T: Timeliness: Newer posts will always get shown first.

E: Engagement: As your tweet likes, clicks, RTs go up, so does the likelihood of your tweet being viewed. If your tweet is DM’d to someone or someone follows you off of the tweet, Twitter favors it even more!

P: Past Engagement: You and your audience are shown more tweets from people that you have interacted with in the past.

C: Credibility: Twitter favors accounts that are credible. So, make sure none of your links are broken!

Remember MUTEPC next time you post on Twitter and may the algorithm be on your side!
