Coordinate photography color with the style of your website.
Pay attention to the overall color scheme of your photos. Do the photos pair well with the style of the site? Are there pops of color in the photo that conflict or distract from the color scheme of the site? Is the tone of the photo warm or cool? Dig into those details.
Accent colors, please!
Working with a one color and shades of that color can make your website feel a bit monotonous, boring, and under-designed. Using accent colors to expand the website’s palette is a simple way to liven it up and create contrast.
Your logo color doesn’t have to determine the color palette of your brand
Sometimes what works for a logo doesn’t necessarily work for an entire website. Don’t be afraid to introduce new colors to your color scheme. Consider using the logo color as the accent color rather than the primary.
Keep it modern
If you want to keep it fresh, stay away from true primary colors. Subtly mix colors to achieve a more interesting shade. Try using greys instead of pure black or white. Experiment with warm and cool neutrals – think browns, tans, blue-grey, off-white, etc.
Don’t be afraid
Have fun with it! Throw labels like masculine and feminine out the window and elevate your color palette. Experiment and try non-traditional combinations. I like to start with a bold, unusual color and build my color scheme to support that color. You’ll be surprised at what you come up with. That thoughtfulness will show up in your work and make it more memorable
